It was a short week of racing as Iowa horses raced toward the New Year.  On Thursday (12/26), CR Blaze drew the five hole in race twelve at The Meadows.  As CR Blaze (Brady Brown) left the gate, she quickly took the lead.  Cutting the fractions in 28.2, 59.3, and 1:29.0, CR Blaze was beaten a neck by Got Current (Aaron Merriman), the mile in 1:58.2.

Friday evening (12/27) at Cal-Expo, Marced Magic competed in race five, The Open.  As the gate folded, Marced Magic (Dean Magee) got away fourth from the two hole.  Sitting fourth, Marced Magic didn’t make a move until past the half.  Battling Senga Nitro (Braxton Boyd), Marced Magic took over the lead at the top of the stretch.  Pacing his mile in 1:54.4, Marced Magic finished second to Part Time (Gerald Longo) by a neck.

Saturday (12/28) racing started off at The Meadows.  A trio of Iowa graduates hit the track in race ten;  Wx Dontworryboutit (Brady Jenson) in post position one, Jackpot Jessie (Jerry Kehm) in post position two and Always B Hanny (Jim Pantaleano) leaving from the eight hole.  As the field broke from the gate, Jackpot Jessie got away third, while Wx Dontworryboutit settled into  fifth.  Parked sixth to the quarter, Always B Hanny had a tougher trip.  Sitting parked until the three quarter pole, Always B Hanny took control at the top of the lane, coming home for the win, pacing in 1:58.0.  Jackpot Jessie held onto third, pacing her mile in 1:58.3, while Wx Dontworryboutit faced traffic trouble, finishing sixth.

It was all DP Rocket in the next race.  Drawing the three hole in race eleven, DP Rocket (Brady Brown) was in complete control as she left the gate.  Trotting in 28.3, 1:00.3, and 1:30.3, DP Rocket finished a strong last quarter of 29.0 to win the mile in 1:59.3.

On the west coast, it was another gate to wire performance for an Iowa grad.  In race four at Cal-Expo, Flash Me Baby (Luke Plano) cut the mile.  Fractions of 28.4, 58.2, and 1:27.2, Flash Me Baby came home in 28.3.  Returning to the winner’s circle for owners Rick Huffman and Larry Mather, Flash Me Baby scored the victory in 1:56.0.
