Iowa horses share the love

Iowa graduates hit the tracks to share the love this Valentine’s week.  CR Blaze was blazing hot as she started off the week on Monday (2/10) at The Meadows.  With a brush to the front from the four-hole, CR Blaze (Brady Brown) led them to the quarter in race five.  Letting Stinglike A B K (Aaron Merriman) take over at the half, CR Blaze tracked in third until the last turn.  Trotting a last quarter in 30.4, CR Blaze got up for second, in 1:57.4, beaten by a head.

Staying at the Meadows on Tuesday (2/11), race two saw Heavy Handed Hanna with a poor draw for post position.  Leaving from the eight-hole, Heavy Handed Hanna (Jerry Kehm) got away fifth.  Past the half, Heavy Handed Hanna made a move to the outside.  Flying down the stretch, Heavy Handed Hanna paced her way to second, mile in 1:59,1.

Pond Jumper didn’t draw much better at Dover Downs in race five.  As the gate folded, Pond Jumper (Tyler Davis) trotted out from the seven-hole, to sit third.  Pulling from the rail after the half, Pond Jumper was shuffled back to fifth, following the field on the outside.  As the wire neared, Pond Jumper trotted a strong last quarter in 29.3 to finish second by a length, his mile in 1:56.3.

On Wednesday (2/12) Always B Hanny (Jim Pantaleano) left like a rocket from post position six in race two.  Cutting the fractions in 27.3, 56.4, 1:25.4, Always B Hanny held on for third, pacing her mile in 1:56.4.

In race eleven, All Taylor Made (Jim Pantaleano) broke nicely from the gate to pick up the pocket trip, behind Dj’s Midnight Jazz (Mike Wilder).  Maintaining her position on the rail, All Taylor Made trotted to hit the board in second, by a neck.  With the fasted last quarter in the race, 29.4, All Taylor Made’s mile went in 2:00.1.

Juxta Cowgirl (Jason Bartlett) set her sights on the winner’s circle Thursday (2/13) at Yonkers Raceway.  Bartlett asked for some speed as the gate folded and Juxta Cowgirl responded from the six-hole, with a 27.3 first quarter. Shady Caroline (Matt Kakaley) tried her luck, putting a head in front on the outside pacing the half in 56.1.  As Shady Caroline crossed over, Juxta Cowgirl pulled to retake the lead, racing to the three-quarter pole.  Pacing a last quarter in 31.0, Juxta Cowgirl put her nose on the line to take the win, in 1:57.1.

On Valentine’s Day (2/14), Oh Toodles had a date with driver Tony Hall in race two.  Oh Toodles left from the eight-hole to take up fourth as they paced to the quarter.  Hall pulled Oh Toodles as they raced past the half.  Pacing down the lane in 28.4, Oh Toodles hit the board,placing second, pacing his mile in 1:54.0.

At Cal-Expo, Nick Roland’s first date of the card was with My Muddy Buddy in race one.  Sprinting out of the gate to take the quarter in 29.3, My Muddy Buddy let Explainnotcomplain (Luke Plano) take control as they came to the half.  Staying in the pocket, My Muddy Buddy finished second, mile in 1:55.4, last quarter in 28.0.

Zachariahs Honor (James Kennedy) picked up a good third in race eight.  Sitting third the whole mile, Zachariahs Honor paced his mile in 1:55.2, last quarter in 28.1.

On Saturday (2/15), Lynn Bin Con Kin had a rough trip in race twelve at Northfield Park.  Parked from the five-hole, Lynn Bin Con Kin (David Lake) stayed on the outside as they raced to the top of the stretch.  Pacing her last quarter in 30.1, Lynn Bin Con Kin took third, her mile in 1:56.0.

Back to California, Diamonds Are Trump and stablemate, Red N Hotallover, drew in together in race two at Cal-Expo.  Red N Hotallover (Nick Roland) took the lead to the quarter in 28.0.  Diamonds Are Trump (Luke Plano) took over quickly as they came to the half, in 57.0.  With a strong last half, Diamonds Are Trump took the win by two lengths.  Returning victorious to the winner’s circle, Diamonds Are Trump paced home in 28.3, mile in 1:54.2.  Red N Hotallover picked up a check, finishing fourth, her mile in 1:55.2.

In the “Iowa Preferred” race four, Lakota Law (Braxten Boyd), Bertha Vanation (Nick Roland) and Flash Me Baby (James Kennedy) all drew in together.  As multiple horses battled for the lead throughout the race, Flash Me Baby and Bertha Vanation hit the stretch together.  Pacing a last quarter in 26.3, it was all Flash Me Baby as she crossed the wire.  Picking up the win for owners Rick Huffman and Larry Mather, Flash Me Baby paced her mile in 1:57.0.  Bertha Vanation hit the board second, her mile in 1:57.3, with Lakota Law getting a fifth-place check.

Ending Valentine’s week, on Sunday (2/16), Frisky Pedro (Tyler Butler) was feeling frisky to get  third place in race two at The Downs At Mohegan Sun Pocono.  Last quarter in 30.4, Frisky Pedro was beaten out of first by a head, his mile in 1:56.3.
