Iowa 3-year-olds battle at Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa, IA July 22, 2018) – Nine fields of 3-year-olds competed in the third Iowa-Registered meet of 2018 at Oskaloosa on Sunday (July 22).

There was one field of featured pacing fillies and two of those competitors went into today’s race with perfect records in Iowa-Registered racing in 2018. Bunkerhill Jill and Sneakydon’tfailme drew into the same race for the first time this year. Mark Mintun had driven both fillies in all their wins thus far. Today Mintun drove his filly Sneakydon’tfailme, delivering a 2:01 performance. The Sneaky B Skipalong filly is owned by Mintun with his sister Stephanie Gould and his nephew Justin Gould.

Both winners of the two divisions of pacing colts and geldings went to crowd favorites. Coming off a big mile at What Cheer, SB Angelindisguise took the first in 2:01.4 winning with the fastest last quarter of the day in 28.2. The Sneaky B Skipalong gelding is owned by Mark Mintun, Stephanie Gould and Big Show Stables.

Minnie Vinnie won the second division in the day’s fastest mile cruising to victory in 1:59.1. The Curtis Carey trained son of Millionaire Cam led wire-to-wire with Will Roland in the bike. Minnie Vinnie is owned by Jeff Cary, Jesse Delong, Rick Huffman and Larry Mather.

Six trotting geldings competed in the feature race with Scramble Camp pinning down another win. Trained and driven by Dan Roland, the Weight Lifter gelding settled into fourth until tipping out to go for the top just before the half and leading the field to the finish in 2:03.1. Scramble Camp is owned by Jeri Roland, Robert Davis, CD Huffman and Larry Mather.

Both divisions of trotting fillies were won by Lou’s Legacy progeny. Ima Juggernaut and driver/trainer Mark Mintun shot out of post position three to take the front and keep it until crossing the wire in 2:04.1 seven lengths ahead of the closest competitor. Ima Juggernaut is owned by Mintun and Stephanie Gould and remains perfect in her 2018 Iowa campaign, going four-for-four in Iowa starts.
Royal Roland’s Lou’s Legacy filly Can’t Match This broke her streak of three second place finishes to win her first race of 2018. After some early shuffling, Roland gained the lead at the quarter. The filly remained on top and held off a late charge to win by a neck in 2:06.4. Can’t Match This is owned by Royal & Barb Roland and Dale Hein.

Three fields of Non-Winners of $3,000 in 2018 rounded out the card with wins going to Duane Roland’s pacing filly Lynn Bin Con Kin in 2:04.1, Thomas Shipley’s trotting colt March Third in 2:08.2 and Adam Hauser driving pacing colt Cash Vaughan in 2:04.1.

Iowa racing action resumes Monday, July 23 at Oskaloosa when 2-year-olds take to the track. Post time is 12:30.
