Humboldt, IA (August 11, 2018) – Iowa-Registered 2-year-olds competed in the first of three weekends of racing at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.

They day started with 2-year-old trotting fillies. D P Rocket hadn’t found the winner’s circle since her last start at Humboldt, her home track, on July 7. Adam Hauser drove the All In Tad filly, settling into fourth off the gait. The pair tipped out following cover as they approached the half and steadily advanced until the three-quarters when D P Rocket went three wide and took the field in 2:08 in an impressive stretch run. D P Rocket is owned by Fred Wagner and trained by Hauser. The second division of two-year-old trotting fillies went to SB Head of State and driver Jesse Yoder in 2:08.4, a Tom Ridge filly that shipped in from Minnesota coming off a win her last trip to Iowa a few weeks earlier. SB Head of State is trained by Ulf Holm-Johansen and owned by Susan Holm-Johansen and Deborah Hofsaess.

There were also two divisions of 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings. Kick Away and driver Dan Roland matched the fillies in a 2:08 performance. The Weight Lifter gelding took control of the field at the half and steadily increased his lead, cruising across the finish line lengths ahead of the competition. Kick Away is trained by Roland and owned by Roland and his wife Jeri. Al-Mar Winstar took the other division with Mark Mintun in the bike. Tipping out on the backstretch the second time around, the Powerful Emotion colt surged into first and held off late charges to win in 2:08.3. Al-Mar Winstar is owned by Mark Holtan and trained by Joel McDanel.
The first division of 2-year-old pacing colts went to Frisky Pedro, another competitor that favored the Humboldt track last winning here on July 7. Mike Morales piloted the Millionaire Cam colt to a win, racking up a new lifetime mark of 2:06.2. Frisky Pedro is owned by Jeff Carey, Alan Eden and Rick Huffman. The second division of 2-year-old colts picked up the pace with Scott Smith giving Oh Toodles a stellar drive, coming from behind to out-sprint the pack down the stretch in a 2:04 trip. Oh Toodles is an Iowa-sired Relentless Yankee colt owned by Debbie Philipp and Shirley Smith.

With dominant Iowa-Registered filly Snobbytown in Ohio for Sires Stakes racing for the weekend, the two divisions of 2-year-old pacing fillies were ready to bring new talent to the winner’s circle. Always B Hanny, another Minnesota import, settled into second off the gait. Making their move at the half, driver Adam Hauser pulled the Always A Virgin filly. Always B Hanny was parked the rest of the mile, finding another gear at the three-quarters to take control of the field and lead to a 2:05.1 victory. Always B Hanny is owned by Todd Banks and trained by Justin Anfinson. Coming off an Iowa Sires Stakes win at Oskaloosa, Heavy Handed Hanna and driver Will Roland won the second division in the fastest 2-year-old pace of the day in 2:03.3. Trained by Curtis Carey, the Millionaire Cam filly is owned by Jesse Delong, Lindsay Reuckert, and Jeff Carey.

Roland N Rock pleased the crowd with a win in the final feature race of the day. The 6-year-old gelding held off a charge by 4-year-old Harry Fredrick to take the Aged Iowa Pace in the fastest mile of the day – 2:00.2. Roland N Rock is owned by Duane and Connie Roland.
Iowa racing resumes tomorrow, August 12 at Humboldt when 3-year-old Iowa-Registered horses and aged trotters take to the track. Post time is 12:30.
