Iowa-Registered two-year-old trotters and pacers highlighted the card on Saturday (8/24) at What Cheer.
In race three for two-year-old trotting colts/geldings, Bro Oak (Will Roland) looked to pick up his second win in a row, competing from the rail. As the gate folded, Bro Oak trotted with command to the top. Taking the field to the quarter in .31 flat, Bro Oak rounded the turn, trotting past the half in 1:03.0. With the second quarter breather, charged past the three-quarter-pole in 1:33.2, still full of trot. Opening up by six lengths, Bro Oak hit the stretch in full stride. Crossing the wire in 2:04 flat, Bro Oak captured his eighth win for trainer Curtis Carey.
Two-year-old pacering colts/geldings took the track in race four. With winning streaks on the line, El Travino (Brandon Jenson) had the rail and Vino (Adam Hauser) lined up beside him. As the race commenced, Vino pushed the gate out of his way to take the lead, with El Travino dropping into the pocket. Setting the pace, Vino cut the mile in 30.2, 1:00.2 and 1:31.0. With no challengers in sight, Vino drove down the lane, winning his eighth race in 2:00.1.
Iowa harness racing resumes for two days at What Cheer, Saturday (8/31) and Sunday (9/1). Post time is scheduled for 12:30pm CST.
