Tara Spach — IaHHA

Twas the week before Christmas

Iowa horses racing across the land

From Cal Expo to Pompano

And to New Jersey, The Meadowlands

At Saratoga on Tuesday (12/21)

Always B Hanny, Billy Dobson with the drive

Competed in the opener

Leaving from the five

Parked first at the quarter

Then into the pocket she dropped

Finishing the mile second

Her mile 1:57.3, she clocked

In the first race at The Meadows

It’s So Fluffy with the rail

Jim Pantaleano in the bike

Out to second, they did sail

Second by a length

As they raced around the track

But coming to the wire

Third place was racked

Marced In Faith in race four

With Ridge Warren holding the reins

Sprinting out from the six-hole

First at the quarter, she gained

Dropping back to race second

Tracking the leader from behind

Still second turning for home

Looking for the wire

Pacing home in 29.4

Second fastest last quarter

But third place she did earn

Coming up just shorter

On to race nine

First Gunner and Dan Rawlings

From six-hole to the lead

We thought he had grown wings

Still up at the half

But competition did prevail

Holding on for third place

Trotting in 58 flat, he raced well

Jenson Stable sent another one

Out in race eleven

Always Choose Chip and Jim Pantaleano

Had post-position seven

Like a rocket they left

The starting gate behind

Cutting the mile in front

All the rest fell in line

As they raced the last turn

With the lead by a head

Neck and neck at the wire

Placing second instead

Wednesday (12/22) at Northfield

LT-Turbo from the nine

Got away sixth

With Aaron Merriman holding the lines

Charging up on the outside

Parked fourth at the half

Hard charging on the backside

Double parked, liked it was choreographed

Trotting down the lane

Seven lengths to make up

HItting the board for place

Looking to make it blowup

Merriman also was at The Meadows

Driving That’s My Leroy

Four-hole in the opener

This race strategy he tried to employ

Cutting the mile

First quarter in 28.3

The half paced in 58.1

The three-quarter pole, he could see

Still leading on top

As rounded the last turn

Not able to hold the lead

Third place he did earn

In race eleven

Rail to racing third

Hide Your Banker’s name

From the announcer, we heard

Tracking in position

Following the pack

Hide Your Banker grabbing a check

Third place he did sack

The holiday on Saturday

All Iowa horses tucked in their stall

We overheard Santa saying

“Merry Christmas to all”
