Horses drawn, races to fill

Halloween week with a spooky thrill

 

Monday (10/26) The Meadows in race seven

Oh Toodles (Dan Rawlings) had a weapon

Nine-hole to fifth at the quarter

Charging to parked first, faster and faster

A head cross the line, last quarter 30:3

Oh Toodles in 1:54.1, winning for treats

 

Race two at Yonkers Raceway after dark

Slippin The Clutch (Jordan Stratton) went off chalk

Scary fractions of 28.3, 58.1, 1:26.1

Slippin The Clutch floated on home

The mile in 1:54.3, last quarter 28.2

Haunting the winner’s circle for his new crew

 

As All Hallows’ Eve, creeps closer and closer

Racing the last Thursday (10/29) in October

In at Monticello and drawing the three-hole

Jumping Jillybean (Cory Stratton), getting a check is the goal

Sitting third the whole mile, ghosting the field

Her mile in 1:59.3, third place was sealed

 

The judges at Yonkers, with an evil grin

Assigned Snobbbytown the outside in race seven

 George Brennan on board, left out of the gate

Snobbytown didn’t have a minute to waste

Fourth, parked third and parked out second

Pacing the stretch, the wire did beckon

With supernatural effort, a head outstretched

The win in 1:54.4 had bettors bewitched

 

Under a full moon on Halloween (10/31) night

At Northville Downs, not showing stage fright

Bunkerhill Jill (Don Harmon) dressed in pink

Followed the field, race strategy, don’t overthink

Passing horses down the stretch

A third place finish, hitting the board was clenched

 

And though you fight to keep your calm

Your body starts to shiver

For no mere harness fan can resist

The Iowa horses thriller!!
