Fast Talkin Ted, Searching For You top Iowa colts

Humboldt, IA — Six fields of 2-year-old trotting and pacing colts and geldings took to the track at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds for the first Iowa-Registered Meet of the 2020 race season.
After coming off a win in the overnight at What Cheer last weekend, Fast Talkin Ted won in a gate-to-wire 2:03 mile with Adam Hauser in the bike. The 2-year-old colt led the field with ease, breezing home in a 30 second last quarter. Trained by Rick Huffman, Fast Talking Ted is from the first crop of Special Forces, a son Real Desire standing in Minnesota. He is owned by Rick & CD Huffman of Sigourney, IA and Larry Mather of Webster, IA.
The other top division of pacing colts went to Foolstown. Trained and driven by Mark Mintun, Foolstown tipped three wide in the last turn to snap the leaders in 2:05.1. Foolstown, a son of the Iowa sire In Over My Head, is owned by Mel O’Neal of Libertyville, IA.
The final 2-year-old pace was for non-winners of $3,000 in 2020. Curtis Carey trainee That’s My Leroy cruised home in 2:05 for his first win with Will Roland in the bike. A son of Net Ten EOM out of the Big Towner mare Major’s Sister, That’s My Leroy is owned by Rick Huffman and Jeff Carey, Columbus Junction, IA.
Coming off a win at the Iowa Sires Stakes last weekend, 2-year-old trotter Searching For You clocked the fastest trot of the day in 2:06.4. Trained by Rick Huffman, Searching For You is by the Iowa sire Stage Muscles, a son of Muscle Hill, and out of the Self Possessed mare Brioni Suite. He is owned by Rick & CD Huffman and their granddaugher Kayveonna Johnson.
After finishing second in all of his previous four starts, Officerincommand put together a winning mile in the other top division of 2-year-old trotters. Owned, trained and driven by Gary Liles, Officerincommand took over the field in an impressive stretch run to win in 2:09.3. He is a son Macduffie out of the Conway Hall mare Hall Of Beauty.
The final trot of the day was for non-winners of $3,000 in 2020. Trained and leased by John Saner of Batavia, IA, Rowdy Hill and driver Jason Telfer held off the field to win in 2:14. Rowdy Hill is by Dredd, a son of Muscle Hill.
Iowa racing action resumes tomorrow, July 3, at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds when the Iowa-Registered 3-year-olds battle for the first time. Post time is 12:30.
