“Aces” up their sleeves

We are so happy to be back in the full swing of harness racing!!  Let’s get started back with checking up on our Iowa graduates!

 

On Tuesday (7/21)  Selma O’Brien put in a valiant effort in race four at Running Aces.  Leaving from the two-hole, she got away fifth, with Brady Jensen in the bike.  Parked sixth at the half, Selma O’Brien stayed parked until the top of the stretch.  Flying home in 29.2, Selma O’Brien finished second behind Ridonkuloso (Jacob Cutting) by only a head.

 

At The Meadows, in race three, D P Rocket picked up a third place finish for driver Brady Brown.  In race four, Jackpot Jessie (Jerry Kehm) scored a second, pacing her mile in 1:56.3.

 

Running Aces was apparently holding “Iowa Preferred” races on Saturday (7/25).  Starting off the card, Skylar Said (Nick Roland) drew the rail in race one.  Getting away fourth, she tracked the leaders, parked half the mile, until the top of the lane.  With a brush to pass Full Deck (Brian Detgen), Skylar Said crossed the line to pick up the win, pacing in 1:57.4 for owners Duane and Connie Roland.

 

Next up in race two, Its A Marcs World (Nick Roland) left from the seven-hole on a mission.  Taking the lead, Its A Marcs World set the pace, cutting the fractions in 28.0, 58.3 and 1:27.2.  As they rounded the last turn, Its A Marcs World maintained his two length lead to take the win.  Returning to the winner’s circle again for owner Duane Roland, the Marced Card gelding paced his mile in 1:55.1, last quarter of 27.4.

 

Race three had a pair of Iowa horses in to go, Ice Storm (Tim Maier) in the five-hole and SV Tymal’s Image (Jacob Cutting) drawing the two-hole.  As the gate folded, Bringthegold (Brian Detgen) quickly left to take command, with Ice Storm settling in second.  Getting the perfect trip, Ice Storm took over at the top of the stretch.  Pacing home in 29.4, Ice Storm returned victorious to the winner’s circle for owner Larry Jensen, his mile in 1:58.1.  SV Tymal’s Image had a tougher trip, getting away seventh at the start.  But the Tymal Templar gelding put in a huge effort, picking off the field to finish third for owners Aimes Racing.

 

Another winning mile for an Iowa horse was in race four.  Drawing the rail, Its Pacific Time (Rick Magee) left and didn’t look back.  Setting the pace in 28.0, 57.1, 1:25.2, Its Pacific Time held off all challengers for the win.  With a last quarter in 29.2, the three-year-old filly paced her mile in 1:54.4 for owner John Hendricks.

 

Somewherebeautiful (Nick Roland) dominated in race six.  The three-year-old Somebeachsomewhere filly cut the mile from the three-hole, fractions in 28.2, 58.2, 1:27.0.  Winning by six lengths, Somewherebeautiful paced home in !:55.0 for owners Duane Roland and Roger Roland.  Picking up second, Bestgirlsgotcurves (Dean Magee) paced her mile in 1:56.2 for owner Kati Sokolowski.

 

In the last race of the day, Zachariahs Honor also went wire to wire.  Parked to the first quarter in 28.2, Zachariahs Honor, driven by Dean Magee, wasn’t phased.  Pacing the rest of the mile in 58.2, 1:27.3, the Hot Pans gelding paced across the finish line in 1:56.0, last quarter in 28.2.

 

On Sunday (7/26), Iowa horses had aces up their sleeves at Running Aces.  Race one had Brandon Jenson trained stable-mates, Al Mar Why Not and Storm In Motion, competing against each other.  With driver Rick Magee in the bike, Al Mar Why Not put in a gate to wire effort.  With the fractions set in 29.4, 1:01.0 and 1:30.1, Al Mar Why Not paced her mile in 2:00.1, winning for owner Bryce Jensen.  Storm In Motion (Tim Maier) picked up a third place finish for owners Larry and Nancy Jensen.

 

In race four, Lone Star Tap (Tim Maier) placed a solid mile.  Pacing his mile in 1:58.1, last quarter in 29.4, the Brady Jensen trained gelding placed second, for owner Nancy Jensen.

 

Queen Of Marcs drew the two-hole in race five.  Getting away fifth, Queen Of Marcs (Darrell Wright) pulled to the outside just past the quarter.  Parked to the three-quarter pole, Queen Of Marcs finally cleared to third at the top of the stretch.  With a last quarter of 28.4, the Marced Card mare picked off the leader, Pathologist (Michael Magee) for the win, pacing in 1:55.1.

 

Also with a two-hole draw, Bertha Vanation (Nick Roland) had a similar race.  Fifth at the quarter, Bertha Vanation was parked past the half to the three-quarter pole.  Sitting fourth at the top of the stretch, Bertha Vanation found another gear as she paced down the lane.  Crossing the wire in 1:53.4, Bertha Vanation put a head in front for the win, last quarter in 28.4.

 

Marced Magic (Tim Maier) cut the mile in race nine from the nine-hole.  With fractions in 27.2, 58.0, 1:26.0, Marced Magic held on for second, getting beat for the win by a head.

 

Later that evening at The Downs At Mohegan Sun Pocono, Juxta Cowgirl also put in a huge race.  Sprinting from the rail, Juxta Cowgirl (Anthony Napolitano) took the lead.  As Juxta Cowgirl paced the quarters in 27.0, 56.0, 1:23.2, she charged toward the finish line.  Crossing the wire, Juxta Cowgirl picked up the win by a head, pacing the mile in 1:51.3, last quarter in 28.1.
