Our Iowa horses started off the week racing at The Downs At Mohegan Sun Pocono on Monday (3/9).  Frisky Pedro (Tyler Butler) left quickly from the six-hole to take command, leading the field to the quarter in 27.0.  Surrendering his lead, Frisky Pedro sat second the rest of the mile.  In a sprint to the wire, Frisky Pedro crossed the wire second, his mile in 1:54.1 and a last quarter of 29.3.

On Tuesday (3/10), Heavy Handed Hanna drew post position five in race five at The Meadows.  With a charge from the gate, Heavy Handed Hanna (Jerry Kehm) cut the mile im 29.0, 1:00.4, 1:29.1 and was still on top as the headed down the stretch.  Holding on for third, Heavy Handed Hanna paced her last quarter in 30.1, her mile in 1:59.2.

Over to Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday (3/11), CR Blazin Beauty left from the rail in race ten, the Trotting Open Handicap.  With Kevin Cummings in the bike, CR Blazin Beauty left smartly to take the lead.  Setting the fractions of 29.1, 58.4 and 1:28.0 to the three-quarter pole, CR Blazin Beauty took the field down the lane.  Beaten by a length, CR Blazin Beauty trotted to third, her mile in 1:58.2, paying $7.00 to show.

From New York State to Maryland, Ruby Rose (Eddie Davis, Jr) took the track in race five at Rosecroft Raceway.  Driven with a purpose, Ruby Rose gained the lead from the eight-hole, pacing to the quarter in 29.0.  Letting Runaround Sue (Sear Bier) take over, Ruby Rose sat in her back to pick up a second-place finish.  Pacing her mile in 1:57.4, Ruby Rose was the one to bet.  Paying out $8.80 to show and $6.80 to place, the exacta paid out $109.80 and a trifecta payout of $719.40.

Back to New York State on Thursday (3/12), Jumping Jillybean (Mark Beckwith) competed in race eleven.  As the gate folded, Jumping Jillybean got away second from the three-hole.  Protecting her position on the rail, Jumping Jillybean crossed the line in second place, her mile paced in 1:57.4.

A trio of wins capped off the week at Cal-Expo on Saturday (3/15).  In the opener, Bunkerhill Jill (Lemoyne Svendsen) quickly left to get the pocket trip behind Along Came Jane (Luke Plano).  Letting her cut the fractions, Bunkerhill Jill pulled at the top of the lane, sprinting home in 28.3, to pick up the win, her mile paced in 1:58.2.

Bertha Vanation was next up in race two, the Fillies and Mares Open.  Trainer/driver Nick Roland asked Bertha Vanation to push for the front from post position four.  Second behind Alwaysalittlemore (Luke Plano), Bertha Vanation sat in her back.  As the wire approached, Bertha Vanation stuck her head out as they crossed the line.  Returning victorious to the winner’s circle, Bertha Vanation paced her mile in 1:56.2, last quarter in 27.2.

In race eight, Nick Roland sat behind Flash Me Baby, leaving from the six-hole.  With a flash of speed, Flash Me Baby gained the lead, taking the field to the quarter in 29.3.  As California Rock (Luke Plano) took over, Flash Me Baby got the perfect trip around the track.  Rounding the last turn, it was a battle to the finish.  Crossing the wire in 1:57.1, Flash Me Baby picked up the win by a nose, for owners Rick Huffman and Larry Mather.
