Thankful for Iowa Harness Horses

Iowa horses started off the holiday week by placing second in two different tracks on Monday (11/25).  Sitting second the entire mile, Heavy Handed Hanna (Eric Goodell) held on to her position, pacing the mile in 1:56.0 at Yonkers Raceway, in the first race on the card.  At Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland, Stepping Out Art (Tyler Davis) stepped up to place second, pacing the mile in 1:59.2, in race four.

 

Jackpot Jessie hit the jackpot in race four at The Meadows on Tuesday (11/26).  Dealt the eight hole, Jackpot Jessie (Jerry Kehm) got away eighth.  Tracking the field, Jackpot Jessie slowly worked her way up to third at the top of the stretch.  With a last quarter in 29.1, Jackpot Jessie drove hard down the lane for the win, pacing in 1:56.2 for a new lifetime mark.

 

Later in the evening, CR Blaze looked to hit the board in her race at The Meadows.  In race nine, CR Blaze (Brady Brown) picked up third place, her mile in 1:57.0.

 

While the majority of people were busy getting ready for Thanksgiving, Iowa grads were busy racing at three different tracks on Wednesday (11/27).  Starting at Saratoga Harness, Jumping Jillybean (Mark Beckwith) got the perfect trip in race twelve.  Sitting second the entire mile, Jumping Jillybean crossed the wire for the win by a head.  Last quarter paced in 29.4, Jumping Jillybean’s mile in 1:57.1 also gained her a new lifetime mark.

 

As the gate folded in race ten at Batavia Downs, Sneakydontfailme (Wade Tomaszewski) sprinted out from post position seven to take up second.  Battling back and forth with Allabout That Race (Shawn McDonough), Sneakydontfailme managed to sneak her nose across the line to finish second, in 2:00.4.

 

Coming off a nice second place finish last Wednesday (11/20) at The Meadows, Bankn-On-Emily drew the ten hole this week.  Getting away sixth, Bankn-On-Emily (Jim Pantaleano) tracked the field.  Pulling past the half, Bankn-On-Emily picked up cover, gaining on the leaders at the top of the stretch.  Trotting her last quarter in 30.1, Bankn-On-Emily crossed the wire in 1:59.1 to capture second place.

 

Dakota Ole placed third in race nine at The Meadows.  Pacing in 1:55.1, Dakota Ole (Brady Brown) had a rough trip but was only beaten for it all by a length.

 

My Money Honey showed a ton of speed during race twelve at The Meadows on Friday (11/29).  Finishing only one length back, My Money Honey (Mike Wilder) paced his mile in 1:53.0 to pick up a third place check.

 

Later that evening at Cal-Expo, Scramble Camp (Nick Roland) also trotted in 1:58.1 to place third in race two.  Marced Magic (Dean Magee) was nosed out of first, finishing second, pacing 1:54.2 in race four.

 

Saturday (11/30) at Cal-Expo, Bertha Vanation and Red N Hotallover drew in together in race four.  Leaving from post position seven, Bertha Vanation (Nick Roland) got away sixth, but worked her way up to second place, pacing in 1:59.4.  Red N Hotallover (Luke Plano) held on to pick up a fourth place check.

 

Flash Me Baby put in a stellar performance for owners Rick Huffman and Larry Mather.  As the gate folded, Flash Me Baby (Nick Roland) paced out to third.  After being shuffled back to fourth the majority of the mile,  Flash Me Baby sprinted down the lane.  Winning by a neck, Flash Me Baby paced her last quarter in 30.3, the mile in 2:00.4.
